Meet Courtney Miller
A Force for Fairness
People have asked and encouraged me for years, and now I can finally respond with a “Yes!”

I am so proud to announce that I am running for judge of the 432nd District Court of Tarrant County!

I was born and raised in the heart of Tarrant County, and I have deep roots here, from attending William James Middle School, to North Side High School, right up to TCU. I am the child of a union member and a secretary at General Dynamics, now Lockheed. Neither of my parents went to college, but their hard work certainly improved our circumstances and made my education and experiences possible.

I knew early on that I would be a lawyer focused on criminal justice. I became a prosecutor immediately out of law school and I was as trial hungry as they come. I took 33 cases to jury trial in my first six months, and since that time I have gone to trial on many dozens of cases, in many counties, on the most serious cases imaginable. I belong in a courtroom.

I became a defense attorney in 2008 and I am so proud of the work that I do in this field. There aren’t many people who can say that their job is mandated in the Bill of Rights, but I can. Neither prosecutors nor judges are listed in the 6th Amendment, but the Founding Fathers guaranteed “Assistance of Counsel” for all those of criminal acts. As I tell my prospective jurors in jury selection, my job is to fight to protect the rights guaranteed to us in the United States Constitution. I zealously fight for due process and a fair trial for everyone I represent.

But the time has come for me to do more. You have seen me speak out against the disparate treatment Black and other people of color experience with police, and you have seen me speak for and against the behavior of judges in court and online. I can no longer simply call out injustice; it is time for me to administer justice from the bench.

As the judge of the 432nd District Court of Tarrant County, I will treat all people in my courtroom with respect and dignity. I will listen carefully to scientific experts to make sure that “junk” science does not make it into the jury box. And I will ensure that wrong-doers are held accountable, no matter what side of the thin blue line they are on.

This is what I want my mark on the world to be: that I was fair to everyone before me, and that I was fearless in that pursuit. I hope very much to earn your support.

Courtney Miller for the 432nd District Court: Fearlessly Fair.
